Welcome to the intersection of experience, empathy, and innovation – the core of my journey as a designer and mentor. For nearly two decades, I’ve navigated the diverse terrains of the design world. My path has taken me from graphic and web design to the intricate realms of UI/UX and product design, from user research to front-end development. Each role, whether in startups, healthcare institutions, NGOs, agencies, or government contracting, has added rich textures to my design tapestry.
I am an expert in Figma, Adobe XD, design systems, branding, and accessibility, equipped with a keen eye for visual design. Yet, my greatest strength lies in empathy and adaptability. Meeting clients and users where they are, I believe in crafting solutions through collaboration and discovery. This approach transcends tool preference and process rigidity; it’s about tailoring the right solution for each unique challenge.
My foray into mentorship began during the pandemic, born from a desire to guide and inspire aspiring designers and career switchers. It’s in these mentorship sessions that I find the most fulfillment – helping mentees find their unique voice in the design world and connecting them with their dream roles.
Away from the screens and sketches, I immerse myself in the world of tinkering and building. Just like my approach to design, I delve into the intricate workings of vintage audio equipment and game consoles. It’s a meticulous process of disassembly, exploration, and reassembly – a mirror to the design thinking process. Understanding each component, cleaning, restoring, and improving them, I find a resonance with the principles I apply in design. This is where complexity is simplified, problems are solved, and beauty is enhanced.

My Design Philosophy
Embracing the intricacies of design, I view each challenge as an opportunity to innovate and problem-solve. Central to my practice is a commitment to empathy and inclusivity, with a particular focus on elevating diverse voices from BIPOC, and LGBTQA+ communities.
The Story Behind the Name
The name ‘A.F. Knot’ is inspired by one of my favorite jokes, ‘The Rope Joke’:
A rope enters a bar and orders a drink. The bartender refuses service, saying they don’t serve ropes. The rope steps outside, frays its ends for a disguise and tries again. Still recognized, it’s denied service. Determined, the rope knots itself and returns. Upon ordering a drink, the bartender inquires if it’s the same rope. The rope answers, “Nope, I’m a frayed knot!”
This joke embodies our design thinking: the ability to adapt, evolve, and find creative solutions in challenging situations. It’s about understanding the audience and embracing continuous iteration.
